WHY MOULDED DOOR OR WOODEN DOOR

Great interior design works aesthetically as well as practically. You may consider choosing internal doors a fairly insignificant aspect of this process, but the right product can add value to both components of the design: adding substance and a feeling of luxury to your interior while providing privacy and sound-proofing.

The starting point is to consider whether you are intending to paint or stain the door since the latter will obviously need to be of better quality material since it will be on display. It will also help your decision to consider how many doors you will have to buy and what your budget will allow.

Although it is always appealing to spend the maximum amount on the more exciting components of your home, like soft furnishings and accessories, extra care on basic parts like doors can shine through and add a real feel of luxury when they are well matched and high quality.

Once you have decided on the look and budget, the next step is understanding the choices and their benefits and downsides. When making your choice, remember to consider the reality of poor soundproofing e.g. a bedroom door that leads off a room with a television, or near an area that tends to be noisy early in the morning, like a kitchen. Being able to control your environment within each room and have the benefit of silence if you want it is not to be underestimated.

Painted Doors

From an aesthetic point of view, painted doors do not have to be of such a high quality. They come in two types; MDF and moulded.

Moulded doors are cheaper as they are made from wood by-products that are pressed together in a range of different styles. They can be hollow or solid; sound-proofing on hollow doors is generally quite poor, so these would tend to be used on cupboards and less significant rooms. It is usually wise to go for solid doors on bathrooms and bedrooms where privacy is key.
MDF doors are made from a material called medium density fibreboard.

They are usually considered higher quality than moulded doors since they can also be made in pieces and put together to create panels and other decorative features. This gives the door a sharper look when painted. Furthermore, MDF is an excellent material for soundproofing.

Stained Doors

The only real option for stained doors is wood, although this can make the price significantly higher. Having said that, there are alternatives to bring the price down, such as having an engineered wood core with real wood veneers. There is also the choice of having a real wood core made from a cheaper wood, such as pine and then having the more expensive wood veneered on top of this core.

There are a surprising number of choices available for each style and price range. Understanding the basic options will allow you to spend your money where it has the biggest impact on your specific priorities, be that noise control, aesthetic appeal or simply cost. Whatever you decide, making an informed choice will help your overall interior design better match your needs and make the most of your budget.
